In mid-June 2006, 5 Christian families came together to pray and seek God’s direction for a burden to pioneer a church in the heart of Bukit Batok. We dialogued and prayed. All were sure of God’s guidance to start a church.

God spoke to Pastor Nehemiah and we called ourselves Immanuel Community Church. Immanuel means “God with us” – without God we cannot, without us God will not. Immanuel Community Church is to bless “Bukit Batok and Beyond”.

In July 2006, a group of 10 adults and 7 children met at Pastor’s 4-room HDB home for the weekly praise & worship and Bible Studies. The children used 2 of the bedrooms for their children Bible classes. This is our SONIC KIDZ, which means Spirit-filled children, Only believing that Nothing is impossible In Christ. We continued to seek the Lord and prayed for the Lord’s will to be done in our midst.

In September 2006, the Registry of Societies approved our application to be a church and we rented a tuition centre to hold our weekly Saturday service. Soon we needed a place of our own and knowing that this work belongs to the Lord, we started our first service in February 2007 at Block 284 Bukit Batok East Ave 3 #02-255. We took small steps and God continued to reveal Himself to us in very personal ways.

We started an outreach arm called ISAAC, Immanuel Sports And Activities Club. Pastor, together with his wife and a Christian brother, started playing soccer every Sunday morning. In the beginning, there were 4 of our own children but in less than 2 years it ballooned to around 20 boys from the neighbourhood. Next, we opened our church premises for our church’s children and their friends to do their studies and projects. By God’s grace, at different times, different adults and youths volunteered to help these students with their studies.

Though we lacked in resources, manpower and funds, we continued to plough the land by organizing children camps, youth cum soccer camps, helping the poor and needy, Speak English Club, training student leaders and helping weaker students, partnering with 2 RCs and 2 Community Clubs to run Christmas and Family events for residents here.

God moved us forward to different worship places:
